To me, “FEARLESS” is not the absence of fear. It’s not being completely unafraid. To me, FEARLESS is having fears. FEARLESS is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, FEARLESS is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. FEARLESS is falling madly in love again, even though you’ve been hurt before. FEARLESS is walking into your freshman year of high school at fifteen. FEARLESS is getting back up and fighting for what you want over and over again… even though every time you’ve tried before, you’ve lost. It’s FEARLESS to have faith that someday things will change. FEARLESS is having the courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even if you can’t breathe without them. I think it’s FEARLESS to fall for your best friend, even though he’s in love with someone else. And when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they’ll never stop doing, I think it’s FEARLESS to stop believing them. It’s FEARLESS to say “you’re NOT sorry”, and walk away. I think loving someone despite what people think is FEARLESS. I think allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor is FEARLESS. Letting go is FEARLESS. Then, moving on and being alright…That’s FEARLESS too. But no matter what love throws at you, you have to believe in it. You have to believe in love stories and prince charmings and happily ever after. That’s why I write these songs. Because I think love is FEARLESS." -Taylor Swift♥

October 28, 2010-Advice♥

Everybody's Free
By: Baz Luhrmann

Wear sunscreen. If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis or is more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth.
Oh, nevermind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you will look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.
You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future.
Or worry, but know that worrying is about as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind;
the kind that blindside you at 4 PM on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing every day that scares you.
Sing.
Don't be reckless with other people's hearts;
Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss.
Don't waste your time on jealousy; sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind
The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.
Remember compliments you receive
Forget the insults.
If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Keep your old love letters
Throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch.
Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life.
The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives.
Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium.
Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary.
Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can.
Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it; it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.
Dance.
Even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; they're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go, but would a precious few should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, for as the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths:
Prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old.
And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don't expect anyone else to support you.
Maybe you'll have a trust fund, maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when either one might run out.
Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts, and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. IT is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes."

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

October 18, 2010-A Letter to the Lovely

I know this is long, but please take the time to read it. It's a fantastic reminder that every girl, if not everyone should read. I saw this video a couple of years ago, but I had forgotten about it. This guy is awesome. It was something I really needed to hear, and I feel like there's someone else out there that needs it as well. I really hope it blesses you like it does me. Never forget how beautiful, loved, cherished, adored, respected, and truly special you are!

"To the Women of the world:

My beloved sisters in Christ, after years of listening to your conversations and observing your actions, I have to ask, why do you do the things that you do? Do you not realize how often you persist to sell yourselves short? Why are you content with the life consisting of your self-made stress? Please, I beg of you, do not live your lives in deceit; do not conform to this world that is tainted with sin. Do not fool yourself with the devils lies filtering through your head. Do not submit to the pressures presented to you by your friends. If words are said to tear you down, guard your mind. Do not harbor a single thought to dwell in. You are far more significant than you’ll ever know. As the Bible tells, after creating the stars and the heavens, the majesties of the earth, and molding man in his image and breathing life into him, God still looked down on his masterpiece and deemed it something was missing. It was made clear to God that it is not good for man to be alone, and that man could not fulfill his God-given purpose without a helper. When man and woman existed on Earth, God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the Earth and conquer it. And hold sway over the animals in the air, land, and sea. Waiting until woman was created to say this implies that man cannot survive and reign supreme on Earth without the help of woman. Woman was God’s last addition to his creation before he rested, providing the notion that the universe is incomplete and the world as we know it today would not exist without the help of woman. With such a marvelous world you have helped sustain, I can understand why women alike struggle with the idea of beauty. But hear me out, I assure you, you are beautiful, truly beautiful. Jack Nicolason couldn’t have said it better and as good as it gets when he said to Helen Hunt, “ You make me want to be a better man”. It is your beauty that motivates us as men. We are aware of the qualities that you have that we lack and long for. You are gentle, tender, inviting, devout, and nurturing. For those that are concerned with how guys perceive them, believe me, there is nothing we find more attractive than a girl that is comfortable with her own beauty. With the power of your beauty, you brighten up our days even through the worst of circumstances. I find it silly that you have such contempt and doubt in yourselves. Every time you view yourselves in the mirror, you feel as though you are not what you are meant to be. And trust me, I understand your hunger for relationship. You are naturally inclined to want to be loved and want to share the journey of life with someone else. Ever since you were born, you have craved the attention of others; to be captivating to everyone you met. But honestly, you don’t need new hair, new clothes, a new diet, or a completely different lifestyle to require our focus. Please, we desire you, the true you. We hate to see you hide behind your makeup, your laughter, your seemingly busy lives. You present yourself as who you feel we want you to be, but you’ve failed to realize that all we want is you. It pains me to see women convinced that they are not enough, that there must be something wrong with them, when it is certainly untrue. You believe that if we took the time to get to know you, we would find a reason to run away. Untrue. You are persuaded that you are unimportant, merely another fish in the sea. Again, untrue. Also, when reflecting on your own stresses, do not place blame on men. We have our own problems, our own need for repentance. We too shall be reckoned with by God. The true person of blame, I insist, is the devil. Ever since woman’s creation, Satan has been jealous of their unmatched beauty. You bring life to the world and draw people closer to a beauty that resembles that of God. Satan simply cannot bear it. For this you are specifically attacked and hated. But guard your heart, and don’t believe anything he tells you. The world cannot afford to lose you to the enemy. If you strive to keep yourself composed by suppressing pain, let me tell you, it is not worth your effort. Just fall apart, and let it out. Once you are done, be sure to forgive those who oppressed you, mocked you, and hurt you. Until you do so, they will continue to hold power over you, or you will not fully heal. Thusly, you can only heal your emotional wounds through your own will. The choice is up to you. You can choose to dwell in your own sorrow, or work to re-attain happiness. You can also choose to be gullible, or refuse to believe that you are told. But if ever you dismiss a compliment, I pray that my words for you do not go amiss. For at the end of this letter to you, I relieve you with what neither I, nor the world could ever deny. You are loved, special, wanted, longed for, cared for, cherished, lovely, noticed, and above all else, you are beautiful. I sign this letter with my sincerity,

A Concerned Brother in Christ. God Bless You.

If it hasn’t been said before, then please let me be the first to tell you. Your life is meant to be so much better. Don’t believe in the lies you’ve been fed. Neither the most intricate of paintings nor the slightest of words could ever fully capture the truth of who you are. But honestly, you are beautiful by all means. You brighten the world with every smile, you mesmorize it with every blink. In silent stares, those that are graced by your presence stand enthralled by you. Never claim that you are not loved, for you are cared for by many. Rid yourself of market lifestyles and fabricated intuition. Every tear is a heartbound bullet. You kill your loved ones with your crying. Dry your eyes and realize what joy you give us. You make the world such a more wonderful place. You are what completes it. Never change who you are; never take away the girl we love. We could not stand to lose you. You mean more to us than words could ever tell."

"Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you. I Peter 5:7

Maybe you don’t want to trouble God with your hurts. After all, he’s got famines and pestilence and wars; he won’t care about my little struggles, you think.

Why don’t you let him decide that? He cared enough about a wedding to provide the wine. He cared enough about Peter’s tax payment to give him a coin. He cared enough about the woman at the well to give her answers."

A Dayspring Devotion that I found as a fabulous reminder. Thought I'd share!

It's about time you heard it again.
I hear you saying, "Who me?"
I'm saying right back, "Yep, you.

You...
the one doing your thing,
making your difference,
being a glorious mess that God can use.

You... getting back up when you fall down, trying again when it doesn't work out, doing the hard, the different, taking those steps of faith.

You... wonderfully made just like you are, and on your way to becoming all He made you to be. I see you squirming in that chair, squinting a little at that screen and thinking,"That's for others but I'm not so sure about me." Believe it, receive it, it's true. This is for YOU.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:14 NIV

You're a delightful gift from God.

There isn't a time or season that you don't brighten-

from your individual style to the way you express your God-given uniqueness-

you bring a special kind of joy to life…

and you're such a blessing to know!

And just a tack-on to the bottom of this post that is completely unrelated to anything: We got Grand Champion class 1 and 2 A tonight! Go Tigers! (:

"The Dancer believes that his art has something to say which cannot be expressed in words or in any other way than by dancing... there are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume of words. There are movements which impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for movement has power to stir the senses and emotions, unique in itself. This is the dancer's justification for being, and his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art." -Doris Humphrey

“Even though we've changed and we're all finding our own place in the world, we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we'll come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point where we're not all still friends.”

"As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt, because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back."

"Let Me feel the pressure of your care. I know your burden, child! I shaped it—I poised it in My own hand and made no proportion of its weight to your unaided strength. For even as I laid it on, I said I shall be near, and while she leans on Me, this burden shall be Mine, not hers. So shall I keep My child within the encircling arms of My own love. Here lay it down! Do not fear to impose it on a shoulder which upholds the government of worlds! Yet closer come! You are not near enough! I would embrace your burden so I might feel My child reposing on My breast. You love Me! I know it. Doubt not, then. But, loving me, lean hard!“

And then the beat comes
And then she's movin on the dance floor
And I wonder what she's runnin from?
And if it'll catch her.
Her heart is broken but she won't say that
Her heart is broken but she can't go back

Just a second it's my favorite song they gonna play
And I cannot text you with a drink in my hand, eh?
You should have made some plans with me you knew that I was free
And now you won't stop calling me, I'm kinda busy
Stop callin', stop callin', I don't wanna think anymore
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor
Stop callin', stop callin', I don't wanna talk anymore
I left my head and my heart on the dance floor

To live content with small means:
to seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion;
to be worthy, not respectable
and wealthy, not rich
to listen to stars and birds,
babes and sages, with open heart
to study hard
to think quietly
act frankly
talk gently
await occasions, hurry never
in a word, to let the spiritual,
unbidden, and unconscious,
grow up through the common
-this is my symphony,

"I'm not a perfect girl. My hair doesn't always stay in place & I spill things a lot. I'm pretty clumsy & sometimes I have a broken heart. My friends and I sometimes fight, & maybe some days nothing goes right. But when I think about it, and take a step back, I remember how amazing life truly is & that maybe, just maybe, I like being unperfect."

"I am nowhere near perfect. I eat when I'm bored, I fall for boys easily, I'm vulnerable to believing lies. I'm hoping that one day I won't ever need a fake smile.
